Here is an idea ways to use the resources on this site.
After at least 4 weeks when the students are used to using the computers they could focus on one online book on the TK site at a time.
Week 1 -
Week 2 -
Week 3 -
Week 4 -
Week 5
Week 6
Week 7
Try to establish the pattern of warm up from Level 1 -5 and then early finishers or end of class time from the bonus level.
Repeat the weekly activities with another online book in the TK site.
After at least 4 weeks when the students are used to using the computers they could focus on one online book on the TK site at a time.
Week 1 -
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Using headphones, have each student listen to one of the online books on the TK site I created. (Focus on just one book per month as a class.)
- Have them go to Pixie and create a title page for their own version of the book. (You could set up a template for them to access or you could let them make it from scratch.)
- Save the file so the student can access it later.
- Early finishers can do an activity from the "Bonus Level" on the TK site.
Week 2 -
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Using headphones, have each student listen to the same online book as last week.
- Have them go to Pixie and open their project from last week.
- Add a page to the project. (Just click on the green plus sign.)
- Have the students draw pictures to show what happened at the beginning of the story.
- Save the file so the student can access it later.
- Early finishers can do an activity from the "Bonus Level" on the TK site.
Week 3 -
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Using headphones, have each student listen to the same online book as last week.
- Have them go to Pixie and open their project from last week.
- Add a page to the project.
- Have the students draw pictures to show what happened at the middle of the story.
- Save the file so the student can access it later.
- Early finishers can do an activity from the "Bonus Level" on the TK site.
Week 4 -
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Using headphones, have each student listen to the same online book as last week.
- Have them go to Pixie and open their project from last week.
- Add a page to the project.
- Have the students draw pictures to show what happened at the end of the story.
- Save the file.
- Help students share their project with you.
- Early finishers can do an activity from the "Bonus Level" on the TK site.
- During prep time - take combined file of finished work and post to either your class site or another site to share student work for students and parents to view.
Week 5
- Students share their work with the group and tell about the pictures they drew. (Display the work on the big screen in the computer room. Have students use a pointer to point to the pictures they are talking about.)
- If extra time, have students work on one of the TK skills in level 1-5.
Week 6
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Using headphones, have each student listen to the same online book as last week.
- With the scratch paper and pencils in the lab, have the students draw a picture of their favorite part of the story.
- Have four students at a time come over to you with their paper as notes.
- Have them practice telling you their favorite part of the story. Have them look at their drawing to help them remember.
- Record them in Audio Boo or other software telling their favorite part of the story. ("Hi, my name is Lisa and my favorite part of the story was when ...") Record all four students in one take so you have fewer files to work with.
- During prep, upload the podcast to your class site or other site to share with students and parents.
Week 7
- Daily warm up with one or more of the activities in Level 1 -5.
- Have students gather on the carpet in the lab. Play the finished podcast to them so they can hear their voices. They may want to hear it several times. Show them the compiled Pixie project again. Show them a hard covered book with the same title. Talk about the book and read it to them. Talk about the similarities and differences between the two books.
- If extra time, have students can do an activity from the "Bonus Level" on the TK site.
